Background
Giveth is focused on Building the Future of Giving using blockchain technology, to support and reward the funding of public goods by creating open, transparent, and free access to the revolutionary funding opportunities available within the Ethereum ecosystem.
Project creators can create projects on Giveth and receive donations as crypto.
To have a better understanding of the issue with the Giveth homepage, first, we need to know the important part of Giveth.
Giveth is a web3 donation platform that also has its micro-economy which is called GIVeconomy.
Users can donate to projects and receive rewards as GIVbacks, then they can stake and lock those GIVbacks to get GIVpower and boost projects or just earn more interest and make money!
It’s pretty simple! Right? 🙂
The problem
On Giveth we are trying to help projects gain more attention and raise more donations for their cause.
and also make it easy for anyone to know Giveth, understand how it works, and also how they can benefit from the Giveth economy mechanism.
We launched Giveth in 2016 and from that time we never stopped improving it. for the homepage, we did a lot of user interviews to understand what problems our customers are facing!
So here is the list of issues that we found and tried to solve:
1. The very first section on the homepage had the primary action but it doesn’t give users enough reason to take the action! The tagline wasn’t clear and a new users who just landed on the Giveth homepage couldn’t just easily understand what Giveth is!
2. After the intro section we just presented some projects from all categories and for new users who just started exploring the Giveth might not be really interesting.
3. On the old homepage we never thought about how to help our customers trust Giveth and make it easier for them to donate to fund raising projects.
4. One of the most important parts of the Giveth is the GIVeconomy which is the micro economy that we created to help donors and also fundraisers get rewarded by the system. but the way we described it on the old homepage was hard, complex ,and full of jargon words.
5. Another issue that wasn’t directly related to the homepage was founded in the header! users couldn’t take a shortcut to go directly to where they want to go, and also couldn’t just search for a specific project directly from the homepage.
WOW! Lots of issues, right!? 🙂
The solution
So after finding all the issues with the homepage we started to gather different ideas to see how we can fix all issues. On Giveth we always try to validate our ideas by doing fast prototypes and seeing how people are using something, so we did the same with the homepage and let some of our customers review those prototypes and gather their feedback.
Finally after a lot of revisions and talking with many people on the team and also interviewing our users we found our solutions! On the new homepage we tried to make a path for the new users and returning users, so here is the path we created:
What is Giveth & how it works?
The very first section on Homepage tries to introduce Giveth and give users enough reasons to tap on the primary action, and if they don’t find all the reasons, we let them find the Giveth mission easier to know what is the core values behind Giveth. Also in our previous user interviews, we found that the most three important topics for our users are The rewarding mechanism, Verified projects ,and Easy onboarding.
Exploring Giveth projects
This section is designed for both new users and also returning users! but instead of the previous model just showing some random projects, we wanted to be a bit smarter and promote similar projects based on the important events and situations in the world, for example when Turkey and Syria were hit by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake we could just promote all projects who were trying to raise a donation for people affected by that earthquake!
Validating Giveth for new users
For new users who just started exploring Giveth, we wanted to help them to make sure the platform is alive and help a lot of awesome projects raise donations by showing them the total number of projects, donations, donors and also showing the latest donation happening on Giveth.
WAGMI -> We are All Gonna Make It
So what is Giveth!?
Even if we have tons of information on our website trying to define what is Giveth, there is still a good chance that some people won’t like to read them all! So we come up with an idea to create a video with help of our most successful fund raisers to describe Giveth in less than 2 minutes.
